World First Aid Day

Since 2000, the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) and its National Societies have been honoring first aid on the Second Saturday of September of each year. This aims to raise public awareness on how first aid can save lives every day and specially in situations of crisis

The chosen theme for this year is: First Aid in the Digital World

Digital media is important in promoting First Aid as it allows knowledge to be accessed by anyone, anywhere. From basic or intensive learning, to refresher courses in life-saving techniques, digital technology allows anyone with or without internet access to learn first aid.

This year will be special for digital technologies as the Global First Aid Reference Center is about to launch the new updated version of the First Aid App.

World First Aid Day is an annual opportunity to highlight the importance of first aid around the globe as an act of humanitarian empowerment and as a key component of a wider resilience approach. The Global First Aid Reference Centre is in charge to coordinate this event and provide resources for National Societies.

First aid is a fundamental skill that can provide effective and rapid interventions to help reduce injury and suffering, and improve the chances of survival of someone in need.
